ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:
Asian Women United of Minnesota (AWUM) is a community-based, nonprofit organization committed to ending domestic violence by promoting safe and healthy relationships within the Asian Pacific Islander community.

JOB SUMMARY
This position will build strong relationships with each shelter resident, support them to navigate various systems to obtain necessary services. On-Call Advocates must be available and committed to cover any week day overnight shifts (11PM-7AM), plus other on-call shifts throughout the work week as needed, and weekend shifts as assigned. On-Call Advocates are required to work holiday shifts (The day before, the day of, and/or the day after holiday). No exceptions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Answer crisis calls and keep the shelter locked and safe at all times.
  • Assist shelter residents with their daily needs; filling out paper work, looking for jobs, housing, and resources.
  • Advocate on behalf of each child and woman along with the human services system and others and in finding assistance with community resources.
  • Transport participants in personal vehicle.
  • Maintain accurate daily contact, group attendance of participants.
  • Maintain complete record of child and woman’s current situation and progress – updating house log, change over, and night count.
  • Maintain required statistics and participant information for funding sources and internal accountability.
  • Participate as team member to insure effective delivery of services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • One year experience with case management, family service or school systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to speak Vietnamese, Chinese, Tagalog and Karen; preferred.
  • Knowledge of children/family advocacy.
  • Knowledge of county, state and federal assistance programs.
  • Ability to work in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work overnight weekends and some holidays.
  • Ability to work respectfully and communicate effectively with different cultures, groups, and languages.
  • Knowledge of computers.
