ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:
 
FamilyWise has been keeping children safe and helping families lead stable, healthy and productive lives since 1976. We educate, empower and enrich families who are struggling with poverty, substance abuse, mental health issues, homelessness and domestic violence.
 
JOB SUMMARY:
 
As part of a multidisciplinary team, utilize a strengths based family model of parent education and therapeutic parent coaching in the provision of services to clients referred from County systems. Services occur in-home or at community sites in a 1:1 format with parent and/or family. The goals of the programs are to eliminate child abuse and neglect by parents; to improve parenting skills; and to reunify children with their parents when possible.
 
Pay Range: $16.00 – 16.50/hour
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Parent Education:
 
  • Provide a secure and neutral environment which ensures positive experiences for parents and their children
  • Assess parent/family social, emotional, and cognitive skills
  • Teach parenting education classes
  • Conduct parenting observations and provide parents feedback on their interaction skills.
  • Model appropriate social skills for parents and their children
  • Provide life skills education to increase parental capacity for positive family dynamics
 
Case Management:
 
  • Prepare timely written reports
  • Attend all appropriate collateral meetings with Counselors and referring agencies.
  • Develop and implement service plan with client.
  • Coordinate and communicate with county workers, referring partners and other stakeholders
  • Facilitate meetings of family, professionals and natural supports
  • Collaborate with community partners.
 
Other Duties:
 
  • Attend staff and community meetings as assigned.
  • Conduct duties in an unbiased manner in accordance with the agency’s mission statement and guiding principles by which all clients, volunteers, interns and staff are treated equally regardless of race, gender, religion, age, physical or mental abilities and/or sexual orientation.
  • The educator will also have the opportunity to teach parenting groups.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
  • B.A. or B.S. in Early Childhood Development, Child Psychology, Family Social Science Special Education or a related human service field (2 year degree with 2 years’ experience providing parenting services will be considered)
  • 2-3 years’ experience in child development, abuse/neglect services, or parent education, using intervention methods for children with special need

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Bi-lingual in Hmong, Somali, Spanish or other languages a plus
  • Experience working with culturally and racially diverse populations in lower socio-economic conditions
  • Access to reliable transportation, valid MN driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, in order to carry out job duties that require transportation to various local destinations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the general public.
  • Ability to use good judgment in recognizing the scope of authority.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn a variety of tasks, a thorough understanding of parenting and child development issues
  • Serious work ethic with a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
