Intern - Systems Engineering #3337

The General Dynamics Land Systems Intern Program provides an opportunity for students looking to start or continue the transition from academia into industry. Our three-month internship assignments provide compensation based on area of study and class standing and have the students embedded in key functional areas of our business, getting real-world experience and mentorship from seasoned professionals.

In this department, you will focus on the development and verification of system, subsystem, and software requirements and design (non-fire control), development and evaluation of vehicle physical designs and configurations, and analyses of vehicle performance, operations, and sustainability.
• System Requirements and Architecture Group:
Development and verification of system requirements and architecture related products. To transform operational needs and requirements of our customer through analysis into detailed system requirements, which is represented by a balanced system architecture. This is accomplished through the use of a top-down iterative process including requirements allocations and derivation, functional analysis, system architecture, interface definition, and behavior analysis. To analyze and verify architectures through subsystem requirement development, cybersecurity assessments, and software regression testing. To ensure system, subsystem, and component specifications contain the appropriate environmental requirements for the product and verification methods have been defined for testing.
• Physical Design Group:
Assessment of physical architecture related products. To provide a system design that meets the physical design constraints through the development, release and management of vehicle concepts and designs. Physical interfaces are identified and managed as part of the system definition phase and are analyzed for compatibility throughout the program. To properly manage and predict product weight, center of gravity, and moments of inertia across all programs. To translate system requirements into human/system performance, hardware, software, and environmental requirements, which are utilized to develop concepts and design solutions related to the Warfighter/Maintainer. To balance operational needs with safety requirements to produce, operate, and maintain a safe and effective product through its entire lifecycle.
• System Analysis Group:
System analysis and assessmentsincluding a variety of mathematical analyses, models, simulations, and evaluations to provide support to vehicle mobility, system level thermal analyses, vulnerability analyses, system level requirements compliance evaluation and subsystem level requirements decomposition, performance and stability evaluation of fire control systems, evaluation of shock & vibration and the develop of equivalent specification values, and system effectiveness studies. To evaluate and analyze system level power requirements and interfaces of the design. To provide product structure development and obsolescence management of the design through the life cycle of an engineering product, from its design and development to its ultimate disposal.
