Software Developer Co-Op

Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking students to join our software development co-op program in Raleigh, NC. You will start supporting our Business Applications (BA) team. The BA team uses Microsoft SharePoint to build business systems such as our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. We develop user interfaces and reports using Google Charts for desktop/laptop users and will soon be developing mobile interfaces using O365.

Follow-on opportunities (subsequent semesters) for you include working in one of our many teams developing software for the Department of Defense or other customers. Our professional software development team has designed and produced a wide range of software systems, including integrated multi-disciplinary design and optimization systems, 3D interactive design/analysis systems, weapons effects and operational mission planning systems, electronic technical manuals, cyber security applications, multimedia database management systems, and technical hypertext systems. We develop software using the latest hardware and software technologies including C++, C#, Java, Python, SQL, .Net, machine learning, multi-threading/parallel processing, inter-process communications, and 3D graphics in a fast-paced Agile environment.

We develop super cool applications that typically combine sophisticated physics/math-based algorithms and equations of motion within modern software architectures such as Amazon Web Services.

Our goal is to ensure students are exposed to a wide variety of technologies and projects. ARA is interested in training the next generation of scientists and engineers and our co-op program is a part of that vision!

Position Requirements:
  • Undergraduate student in computer science or related fields.
  • Programming aptitude and a desire to learn new technologies.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to export controlled and classified information (including but not limited to U.S. Citizenship)

Additional Useful Qualifications:
  • Experience with MS SharePoint, Javascript, modern C++, C++/CLI, C#, Visual Studio
  • Understanding of T-SQL using SQL management studio
  • Experience with svn and git
  • Experience with continuous integration systems
  • Experience developing Qt and/or MFC GUIs
  • Experience using XML SDKs
  • Knowledge of agile software development
