2020 Summer Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Internships

2020 Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Internships:
The Dock Spiders, located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (between Green Bay and Milwaukee), are a member of the Northwoods League, one of the most prestigious summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country. The Dock Spiders recently won the 2018 Northwoods League championship in just their second year, and the city of Fond du Lac and surrounding areas are proud to call the Dock Spiders their own. The Dock Spiders are owned by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, a highly respected team in Minor League Baseball and the Single ‘A’ affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. 

It is our goal to provide you with hands-on experience and knowledge useful in competing for jobs in the baseball industry. We will also work with you to fulfill requirements for college credit if necessary. Qualifications are based on ability, desire, work ethic and a commitment to make the most of the experience. Our season begins in Mid-May and continues through Mid-August. Fond du Lac Dock Spiders interns receive a salary of $1,500 for the summer and are expected to maintain a very challenging schedule throughout the internship. Interns are expected to be at all home games along with working normal business hours. Our 2020 internship positions are listed below.

Box Office/Tickets Intern:
  • Handle incoming ticket calls, provide customer service to current and potential ticket package holders, and maintain ticket window and will-call operations for the duration of the season. 
  • Help manage ticket information in the ticketing system, assist with data entry, run ticketing reports, and keep records current and accurate using the CRM Software. 
  • Understand and effectively meet or exceed individual and team ticket goals by prospecting for new inside/outside sales accounts through cold calls and telemarketing. 
  • Develop new season ticket customers and maintain a positive relationship with current ticket holders including answering questions, troubleshooting, taking and following through on orders, delivering tickets, and arranging for invoicing. 
  • Promote and sell all types of group and picnic options to businesses, schools, churches, organizations, and individuals.
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community.
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed. 

Retail/Accounting Intern:
  • Organize and manage the team store during all Dock Spiders home games.
  • Assist customers in team store throughout the day including sales and customer service. 
  • Fulfill on-line merchandise orders by packaging and delivering to Post Office.
  • Oversee post-game team store close-out (cash handling, drawer balancing, etc.).
  • Make change and deliver currency to various departments as needed during games.
  • Train and assist concession staff on the proper close out procedures.
  • Become familiar with our current point of sale software to assist with any problems that may arise during a game and provide any POS reports as needed.
  • Count, reconcile and assist with the depositing of all cash from each department.
  • Assist with the ticket office and handle incoming phone calls
  • Assist with download and input of Game Day Staff hours for biweekly payroll.
  • Assist Controller with accounts payable and accounts receivable, as needed.
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community.
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed. 

Video Production:
  • Responsible for training camera operators and directing video webcast for 36 home games. 
  • Create post game highlight package for every home game to be posted on Dock Spiders website and YouTube channel. 
  • Knowledgeable with editing software such as Adobe Suite and other software such as YouTube and Wirecast. 
  • Responsible for setup and take down of video equipment each night
  • Create commercials to be used for marketing and in-game use 
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and maintain all video production equipment. 
  • Create video content to be used on the team’s website and social media accounts
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community.
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed. 

Radio/Public Relations Intern:
  • Travel with the team and be the play-by-play voice for the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders
  • Write daily game previews and recap stories for the Dock Spiders website.
  • Work with local media contacts to coordinate press passes into the stadium.
  • Opportunity to create feature stories and work with website editing programs.
  • Work with coaching staff and Field Manager to compile stat packs each day.
  • Coordinate bus travel, hotel stays and pre-game/post-game meals for the season
  • Create and maintain up-to-date roster 
  • Write press releases and conduct interviews with players and staff for use on the Dock Spiders website and social media pages. 
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community.
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed. 

Marketing/Promotions Intern:
  • Coordinate all on-field promotions and pre-game activities (National Anthem, first pitches etc.)
  • Perform as on-field MC during all home games
  • Implement sponsor contracts while writing and executing game day scripts. 
  • Work with media partners to create advertisements and radio spots for upcoming games
  • Spearhead all special entertainment initiatives including, but not limited to: theme nights, professional acts, special character appearances, and jersey auctions. 
  • Help manage all team social media accounts.
  • Organize and attend mascot/player appearances in the community.
  • Manage and supervise promo crew game-day staff
  • Develop positive relationships with fans, clients and community members to help promote the Dock Spiders
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed.

Graphic Design:
  • Create and design marketing collateral, promotional/print materials and various layout projects within specified parameters as assigned.
  • Signify and maintain the Dock Spiders brand consistency.
  • Project responsibility will encompass overall layout, copy, proofing, etc.
  • Create content for our video board and help run our game day production in our press box
  • Learn how to operate our video board equipment (Venus & CrossFire)
  • Create content for video board and social media use
  • Help Marketing Intern to successfully coordinate all in game entertainment
  • Contribute to the formation of effective concepts and ideas to promote the brand while reaching new/current fans.
  • Photography
  • Shooting digital photos of fans, on-field promotions, events, etc.
  • Photo editing capabilities (including color correction, formatting, etc.).
  • Ongoing classification and organization of photos.
  • Update web-based fan photo galleries.
  • Assist with in-house print fulfillment including cutting, folding, laminating, etc.
  • Manage graphic compilation of sponsor proof of performance reports.
  • Help manage all team social media accounts.
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite 6, Mac Platform: Adobe Illustrator (including expertise with vector graphics), Photoshop and InDesign
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed.
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community.

Food & Beverage Intern:
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of all events held at the stadium
  • Manage and supervise hospitality areas including group decks and party areas.
  • Placing of food/beverage orders, food preparation, waste management, and management of game day staff.
  • Management of inventory and staff for vending services.
  • Responsible for placing beverage orders with multiple distributors and maintaining inventory.
  • Responsible for the general appearance and cleanliness of the concessions areas.
  • Previous experience with food/beverage handling and management preferred, but not required.
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed. 

Baseball Operations Intern:
  • Act as a liaison for home and visiting team and umpires 
  • Manage the home and visitors’ clubhouse and assist with team laundry. 
  • Work with Feed the Team sponsors to ensure players meals are picked up and set up for both teams
  • Work with field manager, host families, and players on coordinating where players will be staying while in Fond du Lac
  • Work with General Manager to ensure jerseys, equipment (bats, balls, batting gloves, etc.) and facilities are ready for players
  • Maintain cleanliness of clubhouse and dugouts
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community.
  • Responsibilities will also include assisting other departments when requested or needed. 

Stadium Operations Intern:
  • In charge of the general appearance and cleanliness of Herr-Baker Field. 
  • Basic knowledge of small engines and ability to operate small equipment.
  • Manage and train Kid’s Zone game day employees and assist in set up and operation of Kid’s Zone
  • Responsible for opening and preparing the stadium for each Dock Spiders game. 
  • Prepare game day promotions and giveaways
  • Perform other facility and maintenance duties throughout the ballpark as needed.
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community.
