Social Media Intern

Project Coyote is seeking a passionate and creative social media intern to join our team. The intern will help develop and implement our social media strategy to increase our online presence to leverage our campaigns and further our goals of promoting compassionate conservation and peaceful coexistence with native carnivores. You will help build and execute an exciting, strategic social media campaign focused on ending wildlife killing contests (organized events in which participants compete to kill wild animals such as bobcats and coyotes for prizes and entertainment). Additionally, you will be responsible for driving traffic to Project Coyote’s website and for expanding Project Coyote’s social media presence generally to help promote our core campaigns, including Coyote Friendly CommunitiesRanching with Wildlife, and Reforming Predator Management.

We are a small but dynamic and effective nonprofit – allowing you to have a significant, direct impact on the growth of the organization and our campaigns to protect coyotes, mountain lions, bears, wolves and other apex predators.

Essential Duties:
  • Helps develop, implement and manage Project Coyote’s social media strategy for all core campaigns
  • Helps create and execute a comprehensive social media campaign for film and video products to drive viewers to Project Coyote’s website
  • Manages our social media presence to raise online awareness of the film and of Project Coyote, attract new audiences, and drive audiences to our website
  • Generates compelling content that works across social media platforms to promote film and video projects and our work
  • Aggressively grows followers and engagement on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms (including integrated platforms such as Hootsuite)
  • Identifies influencers in the community, and builds and leverages the relationships
  • Monitors and proactively responds to breaking developments and new opportunities
  • Creates an editorial calendar to plan out communication in advance
  • Integrates our social media platforms to ensure greater consistency
  • Tracks and evaluates social media effectiveness for the campaign
  • Works with staff and high-level volunteers to develop and execute strategy, content, timing, and outreach to promote the film and Project Coyote across all social media channels
  • Performs other related duties as appropriate

Core Competencies
  • Intermediate or advanced fluency in all major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter, with an understanding of trends, best practices and metrics in social media outlets
  • Experience growing and leveraging communities on social networks
  • Undertaking a college degree or possesses a bachelor’s degree in marketing, digital media/communications or related fields a plus
  • Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and graphic form
  • Knowledge of Photoshop or other platforms used to create basic graphic content preferred
  • Resourceful in utilizing our strong partnerships to access perks that can help build our online community, leverage resources and build those relationships internally
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet or exceed deadlines
  • Proactive and self-driven
  • A proven team player
  • Comfortable working remotely
  • Demonstrated creativity, innovation and good judgement
  • Must have a laptop

Position Details
  • Internship Dates: October 2019 through May 2020 with opportunity to extend
  • Hours: 15 to 30 hours per week
  • Location: Marin County, CA, or remote
  • Reports to Project Coyote Programs & Communications Manager
