Instrumentation & Control/Electrical Co-op

Description:

Practical learning experiences and training will be provided in the field of electrical and instrumentation and control (I&C) by participating in District projects, and by completing project-related tasks otherwise performed by a Senior Project Manager (SPM). A first-semester co-op is expected to become familiar with the District's water reclamation and wastewater conveyance facilities and display knowledge of project management procedures by working in the field, and in the office, under the supervision of an SPM. Each succeeding term the co-op will be asked to complete more complex tasks, ultimately leading to managing a small project in the third co-op term.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The co-op will gain experience working with electrical and I&C professional engineers. There will be opportunities to use AutoCAD and to be introduced to programmable logic controller (PLC) programming. The co-op will also gain experience in all phases of a project, from planning to design through construction and startup, along with the administrative aspects of each phase. 
 
Qualifications:

The student should be currently pursuing a mechanical, chemical, electrical, or environmental engineering degree, and have completed at least one year of college, preferably two. Must be able to walk over uneven terrain and up & down stairs while wearing a hard hat, safety glasses, and safety shoes. Valid driver's license is required.

Supplemental Information:

This co-op position runs for three nonconsecutive 16-week terms. The student will begin their first co-op term in the spring of 2020, return in the fall of 2020, and end in the summer of 2021.
  
Each term is full-time, Monday through Friday.

*The proposed wage of $17.59 is subject to October 2019 Commission approval.*
