Special Education EBD Teacher

CESA 6 is seeking a full-time Special Education EBD Teacher to work with elementary/middle school students at our New Horizons Alternative Program in Winchester. The Alternative School Teacher works with students who have been removed from their home school district. They teach behavior modification as well as general academics to students with emotional and behavioral deficits in an off-site setting.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Function as a member of a teaching team involving a variety of educational professionals;
• Perform all aspects of classroom management, preparation and implementation of current teaching strategies;
• Organize and participate in special activities for students;
• Promote continuity between the EBD Alternative Program and home school district personnel;
• Develop highly individualized instruction to students;
• Develop and implement appropriate and functional IEP goals and objectives;
• Collect IEP data on a regular basis;
• Attend appropriate conferences, workshops and in-services;
• Communicate effectively with parents through notes or phone calls as needed;
• Use NVCI Training methods when the need arises for physical contact with students;
• Observe student(s) to assist staff/districts with determining the level/type of service needed and the development of instructional/behavioral plans including a functional behavior analysis and behavioral intervention plan;
• Guide placement procedures and participate in placement meetings, as assigned, for newly referred students;
• Communication with parents regarding the impact of the disability on the child’s development and the family unit (including family/community resources).

This position requires a solid educational background including a Bachelors degree, preferably in education. Department of Public Instruction Certification in Special Education or working towards certification is required. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention training is preferred (but will be provided). Having an extensive and current knowledge of specific disabilities, including appropriate instructional techniques/mentors, behavioral interventions and effective classroom organization and structure is desired. This position requires having the knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations and policies on state and federal laws related to programming for alternative education.
