AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN

The Automotive Technician performs skilled repair, overhaul, service and maintenance on a wide variety of the City’s fleet vehicles; cars, light and medium duty trucks and light equipment

·         Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems in light/medium duty gas and diesel trucks
·         Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems in automobiles and patrol cars
·         Inspect, diagnose and repair alternative fuel vehicles, including electric, hybrid, CNG and propane
·         Perform planned maintenance to vehicles and equipment,
·         Service vehicles and equipment in field when necessary,
·         Maintain records of daily work, time and materials,
·         Participate in training and remain current on latest automotive technology and repair procedures,
·         Perform welding and fabrication on body and frame parts as well as custom‑built accessories and equipment.

Required
·         High school diploma or equivalent, plus additional technical training
·         Minimum of two ASE Certifications
·         Valid State of Illinois Class C Driver’s License

Preferred
·         Associates degree in Applied Science, Automotive Service
·         ASE Diesel Certifications
  • ASE Master Automotive Technician and/or Master Medium Truck Technician Certifications
