Summer 2020 Industrial Engineering Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for assisting the engineering development of new product, processes and procedures which result in better solutions that deliver high quality products to our customers while achieving personal and professional growth in the field of engineering. Primary functions include collecting data, design development, analyzing outputs, and determining corrective courses of action while promoting safety, quality, and efficiency within the business.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Developing and implementing actions on opportunities to improve products and/or work processes
  • Assisting in, and leading projects critical for long term strategic succes
  • Learning and employing the key principles of Lean to generate improvement
  • Participating in Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) events
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement events and analyze various databases in operational areas to develop projects focused on reducing production times, lead times, and inventory costs
  • Perform time/motion studies and balance factory processes for optimal workflow of people, material and information.
  • Determine methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and resources.
  • Establish standard of work and systems to monitor ongoing results and KPI’s.
  • Collaborate with functional areas to develop and maintain performance metrics and methods.
  • Conforms to the dress code, the workspace, and the building guidelines, as well as all other company policies, procedures, and practices
  • Regular and predicable attendance, typically eight hours per day, five days per week is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
  • Enrolled in and working towards a bachelor’s degree in engineering in an accredited university.
  • Must have completed at least the Freshman year
  • Familiarity with analytical tools, such as flow charts, pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, run charts, etc.
  • Should be self-motivated and able to multi-task and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Should be solution-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • Works well across teams, is willing to learn and grow, and exercises good judgment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, while maintaining a positive attitude and approach to the position responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change quickly.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to
finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel; talk and hear. The employee
is frequently required to sit and stand.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision,
depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Lifting requirement: Up to 30 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primary - Office Environment: Computer workstation and climate-controlled office environment.

Secondary - Manufacturing Environment: May be exposed to moderate processing, indoor work
environment subject to seasonal fluctuations in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical
parts, sharp fabric blades and punches, pallet jacks, forklifts, heavy pallets, moderate to loud
noise level, and air-borne dust and fumes. While working, will be required to wear various
personal protective equipment, as designated (e.g., clothing, gloves, goggles, safety glasses, etc.).
