Assistant Commissioner - Health Care

This posting will be used to fill two Assistant Commissioner Openings. 
  1. Health Care Administration: This position will manage and direct the operations of the Department of Human Services Health Care Administration (HCA) overseeing Medicaid payment and provider services, purchasing and service delivery, healthcare eligibility and access, federal relations, benefit recovery, ombudsman and eligibility appeals, the medical director and the behavioral health director so that public policy is developed, priorities are established and programs are implemented in an integrated manner throughout the State. 
  2. Community Supports Administration: This position is responsible for managing and directing the operations of the Community Supports Administration overseeing behavioral health, disability services, housing, community and care integration reform, and the deaf and hard of hearing services so that public policy is developed, priorities are established, and programs are implemented in an integrated manner throughout the state.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Participate in DHS management as a member of the Commissioner’s Executive Management Team to develop policies and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide managerial and administrative direction to administration division directors and other staff to ensure a positive and inclusive work culture, maximum efficiency of operations and effective use of resources.
  • Design and direct the development of legislative proposals and initiatives and coordinate legislative activities within respective administrations. 
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with external stakeholders so that mutual needs and concerns are met. 
  • Counsel and advise the Commissioner on division related issues to support executive decisions that are aligned with DHS goals and objectives.
