Permanent District Substitute

TeachersOn Call is currently hiring talented, Permanent Substitute Teachers for the Sparta Area School District! Permanent Subs will work FULL TIME, Monday– Friday, indifferent schools throughout the district for the remainder of the school year! 40 hours guaranteed!

As a Permanent Substitute Teacher, you will assume all duties and responsibilities in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. You will be expected to follow lesson plans, effectively manage a classroom or students, and maintain a positive learning environment. This position will mainly work with elementary school students, however Teachers on Call reserves the right to place permanent district substitutes in positions with various grade levels from K-12 based on district need. This position may also work as a paraprofessional based on district need if no teacher openings available.
The Permanent District Substitute works under the direction of the Building Principal or Substitute Clerk and is evaluated by classroom teachers and school Principals. The substitute is responsible to report to the Teachers On Call Permanent Substitute Specialist as their direct supervisor for cancellations, tardiness, time off requests, and feedback.
THIS JOB IS A GOOD FIT FOR YOU IF YOU..
  • Are available Monday – Friday for assignments between 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Remain flexible and able to serve in any school or classroom within the district
  • Are willing to take part in 60 day trial period before permanent hire
  • Will work with TOC to complete a substitute licensure program, if you don’t currently hold a license

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide supervision and instruction for the employee’s class schedule
  • Prepare a written summary of work completed
  • Assume all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher, or those as directed byonsite supervisor
  • Follow the teacher’s written lesson plans
  • Consult with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns
  • Comply with all building procedures and schedules
  • Promote the proper use and care of school property
  • Follow administrative procedures
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management procedures
  • Intervene and/or report concerns to an administrator
  • Develop and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Work cooperatively with staff
  • Incorporate the effective and acceptable use of available technology
  • Respect student privacy by maintaining confidentiality of privileged information
  • Take precautions to ensure/staff student safety and does not leave studentsunattended
  • Supervise non-classroom duties as assigned
  • Perform other specific job-related duties as directed
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree or higher in ANY subject area
  • WI Teaching License / WI Short Term Sub License OR willingness to obtain licensure with TOC’s guidance
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Availability to work Monday - Friday 7am-4:30pm
  • Report to work assignments as scheduled
  • Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions.
  • Ability to communicate in both oral and written means.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to students and staff
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters
  • Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities
  • Ability to be professional in appearance, attitude and demeanor.
Special Requirements:
  • Candidate must be able to access the Absence Management automated system to retrieve assignment details and notifications
  • Pass a criminal background check and reference check
  • Review and understand both the TOC and Permanent Substitute handbooks
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work indoors and occasionally outdoors. The substitute is directly responsible for safety, well-being, and work output of students. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, depending on the nature of the assigned course.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the substitute rarely performs routine work. The substitute frequently exercises flexibility(ability to shift from one task to another). The substitute frequently works within time constraints and maintains a high level of attentiveness. The substitute is frequently involved in social interactions which require great oral and written communications. The substitute frequently will have to walk,stand, and move throughout the course of their shift to fulfill the essential functions of this position. The substitute would need to be alert and aware at all times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Additional information:
  • Permanent Substitutes are typically scheduled 12 hours in advance, with some last minute/morning of placements
  • Permanent Substitutes are not eligible for Long Term assignments
  • Permanent Substitutes will be assigned to work primarily in either Elementary or Secondary, however may be placed elsewhere based on district need
  • Permanent Substitutes are expected to fulfil all assignments in any school/subject/grade level within regions/district if needed
