Publishing Strategy/Support-Editorial Communications Internship Spring 2020

We are …
The Walt Disney World Communications team is part of Public Affairs, which also includes Corporate Citizenship, Government Relations and Executive Communications. Along with their relationship with these departments, the team also works with other operations and departments within the company to achieve its main goal of reputation and brand management for the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Publishing Strategy & Support Team supports the strategy, content management, and publication of a portfolio of internal and external communication channels, as well as conducting research and monitoring on Public Affairs-related topics.

The Editorial Intern focuses on writing and developing stories for Eyes & Ears, a Cast Member magazine; participates in the production process of the magazine; takes photos and writes different recurring columns for the magazine and the HUB, supports various technologies and content management systems and other related duties as assigned.

  • Bringing a motivated, positive attitude and a passion for communication.
  • Supporting communication strategies and utilizing storytelling ability to inspire Guests and Cast Members through engaging, timely and accurate information.
  • Researching and composing articles for a variety of internal and external print and digital platforms.
  • Supporting opportunities to highlight key company initiatives, and build relationships with a network of partners and contributors across the organization.
  • Finding opportunities for visual storytelling through photojournalism, managing and producing photo shoots.
  • Developing visual communication through the creation of fliers, posters, digital signage and presentations.

Basic Qualifications:

You bring …
  • A strong portfolio of work demonstrating your proven ability to write for publications (either print or digital)
  • Proficiency with Associated Press writing style including writing, copy-editing and proofreading
  • Literacy in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Apple platforms.
  • Strong writing and research skills with an understanding of how traditional and social media works.
  • Commitment and focus to working with competing deadlines and managing projects in an organized manner.
  • Open and responsive to coaching in a feedback-rich environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reporting, storytelling and features writing ability while conveying messages to internal and external audiences
  • Additional samples of features, human interest and pieces that demonstrate ability to tell strong stories.
  • Positive attitude, are a self-starter and are highly motivated to learn new skills and systems.

Required Education

  • Currently enrolled as a junior or higher pursuing (or recently graduated with) a degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, or a related major
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

Your professional portfolio should showcase the following types of work:
  • Writing
  • : Professional writing, storytelling, and copy-editing.
  • Visual Communication

Internship Eligibility: 
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from an accredited college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)

Program Length:
The approximate dates of this internship are January 2020 through June 2020. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.

Housing: A limited amount of company-sponsored housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
