Career Counselor - Career Education - St. Cloud

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Career Counselor will have a passion for supporting the Avivo Career Education and Employment Program participants to obtain long term employment through identifying career paths, enhancing their work readiness skills and navigating employment opportunities. The career counselor position will also be responsible for providing support services. This is a full time position working with the Avivo Institute of Career Education and Training in St. Cloud, MN. 
 
As a licensed, post-secondary school specializing in career and technical education, we prepare students for careers and for the world of work. We pair industry-credentialed training with employment services and placement support that transitions our students into employment. 
 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop individual employment plans and assist participants in accessing public and private resources to meet goals outlined in the plan.
  • Assist participants with obtaining and maintaining competitive employment.
  • Help participants develop and strengthen work behaviors and minimize employment barriers.
  • Establish effective relationships with area employers to promote hiring, on the job training, work evaluations, and internship opportunities.
  • Complete comprehensive needs assessment on all individuals referred with respect to contract policies and guidelines.
  • Provide intensive case management and advocacy for participants and their families.
  • Develop partnerships with referral agencies to recruit participants based on Program requirements.
  • Maintain participants’ files; submit reporting forms, and other data as required.
  • Submit all monthly reporting forms and all other data as required.
  • Counsel program participants on job and create retention strategies.
  • Trains on job tasks and behavioral/interpersonal skills.
  • Coordinate input of new data into the database system and assist with the maintenance of main case files.
  • Attend  all scheduled staff meetings.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA degree in human services, education, marketing, rehabilitation or related field preferred.
  • One-year of experience in vocational/employment counseling, case management.
  • Experience working with adults with disabilities and persons of diverse cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of ADAAA guidelines.
  • Ability to instruct individuals or groups on job market, job seeking and job keeping skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work effectively with business partners, referring counselors and participants.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
 
 
WAGE: $18.27/hour
