Science and Technology Writing Intern

PreScouter is offering a paid internship for current journalism students or those who recently finished their degree. This is an outstanding opportunity for a beginning science journalist to dive into cutting edge issues in science and technology while developing writing, researching, fact checking and general editorial skills. This 6 month paid internship has a 20 hour-per-week minimum requirement. This position is fully remote. You can work from anywhere while collaborating with PreScouter team members around the world.

PreScouter is a science and technology consulting start-up based in Chicago, with team members worldwide. We help industry leaders (including Amgen, Boston Pharmaceuticals, Mattel, Coca-Cola, BASF, GE, GM, Gulfstream, Toshiba and many more) quickly up to speed on new technologies and find solutions to their pressing technical problems. The PreScouter Journal, our award-winning blog about science, technology and innovation is read by over 24,000 industry leaders every month. As a start-up we are always growing and there is an opportunity for the right person to transition to a permanent position.  
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist editors and writers with research and fact checking; contact scientists, press officers, and company representatives to track down and verify information and supporting materials for white papers, blog posts and client reports.
  • Conduct interviews with scientists and industry leaders to for inclusion in blog posts, and client reports.
  • Research, report and write blog posts for the PreScouter Journal.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering with experience writing for a general audience
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Similar with experience in science and technology
  • (Students currently completing their degrees with appropriate skills and experience will be considered.)

Experience

  • A background or strong interest in reporting and writing about science and technology.
  • Experience calling and conducting interviews is a strong plus.
