As a Bridge Design Engineer, you will provide structural analysis and design support for existing DOT structures, assisting in the preparation of plans and special provisions for bridge construction due to bridge hits or other emergency findings, evaluating bridges during the scoping phase of project development, and reviewing fracture critical inspection reports and performing structural analysis as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time, Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate.
 

Engineer Senior Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
  • Knowledge of structural engineering practices sufficient to understand and appropriately apply design specifications.
  • Knowledge and application of mathematics and geometry sufficient to perform calculations.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications, Guide Specifications, and MnDOT design standards.
  • Computer skills sufficient to use structural analysis and bridge design software.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, combine and organize technical information and construction requirements into oral and written reports.
 
Engineer 2 Graduate Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university and two years post-graduation civil engineering work 
OR
  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university and one year post-graduation civil engineering work. 
AND
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering practices sufficient to understand and appropriately apply design specifications.
  • Knowledge and application of mathematics and geometry sufficient to perform calculations.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications, Guide Specifications, and MnDOT design standards.
  • Computer skills sufficient to use structural analysis and bridge design software.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, combine and organize technical information and construction requirements into oral and written reports.
