ACE EPIC NPS GA: Jimmy Carter NHP - Cultural Resources Intern

Summary:  American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit conservation corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Cultural Resource Intern interested in dedicating 52-weeks to the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. The ACE intern will focus on cultural resource management, including museum cataloging, environmental monitoring, digitization projects, and general museum housekeeping tasks. Other opportunities include oral history research, assisting with special events, and working with other park divisions.

End Date: August 28, 2020 (or 52 weeks from start date)

Location: Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, GA.
Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is located in Plains, Georgia. Plains is a rural community in Southwest Georgia with full services available in Americus, GA (10 miles); Albany, GA (40 miles); and Columbus, GA (50 miles).

Compensation: The ACE intern will serve approximately 40 hours/week and receive a living allowance of $520/week for food, housing, and incidentals paid out biweekly. An additional one time relocation stipend not-to-exceed $650 is available.
 
Position Description: Interns will receive training in cultural resource operations, be provided with needed safety training and equipment, assist in special park events, participate in division meetings, and be given proper training for other assigned Interpretation and Resource Management division related tasks.
Tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Museum cataloging
  • Environmental monitoring of collection and exhibit spaces
  • Digitization projects
  • General museum housekeeping tasks
  • Assisting with other cultural resources responsibilities, including research
  • Completing trainings: First Aid / CPR, interpretation, computer
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications: Applicants must have a degree (or be pursuing towards a degree) in the museum studies, history, archeology, archives, natural resource management (specimen identification and documentation), cultural/historic preservation, or a related discipline. A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable. 

Required:
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must be 18 to 35 years old (interns must be 21 years of age or older to apply for any ACE position that requires operation of agency or Ace vehicles)
  • A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and ability to provide documentation upon request.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with NPS resource professionals.
  • Ability to complete tasks well independently and with a team
  • Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required
  • Willing to perform duties indoors and outdoors when needed
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to educate guests of all backgrounds about programs and Park information
 
Preferred:
  • Museum cataloging experience
  • Strong desire to enter the public service field as a cultural resource professional
  • Experience and/or knowledge in the mission of the NPS and other federal land management agencies 
The interns must be willing to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner. Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing.
