People For the American Way (PFAW) is a progressive advocacy organization that mobilizes its members and activists to fight for equal rights and constitutional liberties for all. From advocating for fair and just courts to monitoring and exposing the Religious Right to ensuring that our democracy works for everyone, PFAW is dedicated to making the promise of America real for every American.

The communications intern assists the communications tea by creating and editing written and digital content and assisting with other various communications efforts. This position offers a chance to see national and regional communications strategies in action to advance a progressive political agenda.

This position reports to the Communications Manager and is located in Washington, DC. The start date is September 24, 2019 and runs until December 6, 2019.

Responsibilities:
· Write blog posts, news releases, sample social media copy or other materials
· Assists with basic editing and proofreading
· Attend and cover (photos /social media/signs) hearings, rallies, protests and other events
· Assist with communications and project-related research
· Create media press clips

Qualifications:
· Strong writing, editing and organizational skills
· Ability to self-manage, multi-task if needed, and work under reasonable deadlines
· Working knowledge of word processing, Excel, and PowerPoint. Basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
· Basic understanding of national politics and a commitment to PFAW’s progressive mission
