4-H AmeriCorps Youth Development Instructor


University of Idaho – Washington County – Position title: 4-H AmeriCorps Youth Development Instructor
Capacity Half-Time 11 Month term September 1, 2019- July 31, 2020
Contracted Service Hours: 900
 Stipend: $6,600
Term of Service: October 1, 2019 – July 31, 2020

Overview of Position:
Increase academic interest and engagement in STEAM subjects and improve social-emotional development of underserved youth aged 5-18 yrs through Positive Youth Development out-of-school time programs.

Program Location:  Washington County – Weiser, Midvale and Cambridge.
Member Duties & Responsibilities: 
AmeriCorps is America’s National Service initiative. Through AmeriCorps, individuals of all ages and backgrounds address the nation's education, public safety, environment, and/or human needs through service. The mission of AmeriCorps includes: getting things done, strengthening communities, encouraging responsibility, and expanding opportunity.
Idaho 4-H AmeriCorps members contribute to this effort by: Teaching, leading, and facilitating youth development curriculum in STEAM based out-of-school time programs; Facilitating family engagement events; Serving as mentors and role models, teaching important life skills, and giving youth positive opportunities xplore the world around them in a fun, engaging, non-formal learning environment; Engaging new volunteers in their local programs to serve as 4-H leaders and event volunteers.
Idaho 4-H AmeriCorps members will also submit regular progress reports and evaluate programs according to instructions, participate in required community service-learning projects and trainings and provide support and development of community partnerships
Additional duties of this position will include:
·       Plan and lead robotics day camp, afterschool programs and First Lego League teams. 
·       Plan, lead or assist Junior Master Gardener day camps, and afterschool programs.
·       Plan and lead any other STEAM related youth programming. 
·       Assist with additional youth programming as needed. 
·       Assist with 4-H youth development educational and service activities.
·       Recruit and train other adult volunteers
·       Market, evaluate, and report youth programming.
·       Assist office staff with various other duties.
Service Site Location: Washington County
Minimum Qualifications & Skill requirements: Strong organizational skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Knowledge of computers/technology; Knowledge of or willingness to learn Lego Robotics.


·       17 years or older
·       U.S. citizen, or U.S. national lawful permanent resident
·       Have high school diploma/GED equivalent
·       Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria
·       Commitment to community service and ability to provide service for the complete term 
·       Ability to maintain professional boundaries with youth, families, partners, and coworkers
·       Willingness to attend all AmeriCorps and site trainings
·       Willingness to travel to required trainings and days of service
·       Ability and willingness to facilitate STEAM programming and recruit and train volunteers to do the same
·       Enjoy serving with youth
·       Dedication to interact professionally and maintain a professional appearance
·       Commitment to serving others and working with diverse audiences
·       Willingness to lead and be flexible and creative in a fluid environment

Terms:
·       The member will average between 20 hours per week
·       Must wear required AmeriCorps gear while serving
·       Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
