DHH Educational Interpreter

The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Educational Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH). 

This is a certified position. Certified Teacher Assistant positions require a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction ($100.00 expense to employee.)

Required qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of education beyond high school or 48 post high school credits preferred.
• In lieu of post high school education, acceptable proficiency scores for WorkKeys ACT or district administered Parapro assessment is required. 
• Certification for interpreting from an accredited institution.
• Successful completion of the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).

Preferred qualifications:
• Associate degree in Educational Interpreting.
• Experience with special education needs students.
• Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.

Position responsibilities:
• Interpreting for hearing impaired students in special and regular classroom settings, assemblies, and/or extracurricular activities.
• Direct tutoring of students.
• Note-taking in various classroom situations.
• Making supplemental instructional materials under teacher direction.
