Military Medical Research Intern

Description
US Air Force En route Care Research Center is located in the Army Institute of Surgical Research at Fort Sam Houston, TX. The research team includes active duty emergency medicine physicians, scientists, research coordinators, and a program manager. The center conducts research related to the en route care of combat casualties from point of injury to and between medical treatment facilities.

The USAISR SAMMC and 59th MDW Clinical Research Division is offering a scientific mentorship opportunity. An ORISE participant will have an opportunity to be mentored by some of the best military and civilian researchers and clinicians at the USAISR. The participant will take part in the facilitation of integrated, complementary and inter-disciplinary approaches to combat casualty care and address programmatic, procedural & regulatory research. This educational opportunity will provide an overview of military medical research and hands-on experience in a well-funded laboratory.

Appointment Length
This appointment is a two month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USAISR. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications
Candidate should be an undergraduate student with an interest in military medical care research and a desire to learn from world class medical staff in a federal laboratory setting.
