Office of International Education Internship

DO NOT APPLY IN HANDSHAKE!

See application instructions below.

The Office of International Education is looking for 2-3 student interns per semester. An academic internship with the Office of International Education (OIE) is a mutually beneficial partnership between the OIE, the student, and the student’s academic adviser.

Main duties of a student intern include working in the office 10-12 hours per week, helping with major OIE events such as International Student Orientation, Study Abroad Fair, classroom visits, and Campus Preview Days. Hours are adjusted during the semester accordingly for interns participating in evening, weekend, or pre-semester events. This internship is for academic credit (generally 3 credits) and interns work with an academic adviser to complete a project in conjunction with the OIE or a final journal/reflection paper. The academic adviser determines exact assignments.

There are many benefits to an internship with the OIE. Some include professional office experience, ability to use student expertise in an area (i.e. communication, social media), networking within the international education field, and having fun meeting potential study abroad and our international students!

-         Assist OIE staff with specific tasks related to study abroad or international students
-         Help manage front desk duties (answer phone, schedule appointments, greet students)
-         Participate in OIE events as a representative of the office (i.e. Study Abroad Fair, International Student Orientation, classroom visits, peer advising, Campus Preview Days)
-         Complete an academic project that complements both the student’s major and the needs of the OIE

Requirements
-         Full time student able to commit 10-12 hours per week in the office and to required OIE events
-         Interest in International Education
-         Able to be professional, flexible, and creative while interning in the office
-         Able to work with academic adviser to decide a project for the internship

Preferred Requirements
-         Study abroad alumni (any UWGB program) or current international student
-         Office experience
