Health and Wellness Intern

We are seeking current students pursuing a degree in Exercise Science. This posting is for the Fall semester (August - December 2019) in Lake Mary, FL. This internship position is paid and is up to 40 hours per week. Preferred applicants must be a current student at the time of the internship and/or completing this internship for credits. A CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required for the internship. Objectives

 · To provide students the opportunity to observe, experience, and contribute to a corporate health & wellness promotion program while developing skills and utilizing creative ideas within the structure of the existing program.
·  To give students hands-on experience with individualized exercise programming, group exercise instruction, and many other opportunities.
·  To mutually benefit from the intern’s interaction with the company.
·  To increase the student’s local and national contacts in the health promotion field for career enhancement.
·  To allow the intern the opportunity to develop professional interpersonal skills in a corporate setting.
·  To provide the intern a positive, educational and productive practical experience.
·  To expose the intern to all aspects of the program which include:
        Exercise Testing - All Health and Wellness Center participants are eligible to undergo an initial fitness assessment and subsequent evaluations. The intern will have the opportunity to observe and assist with all aspects including: resting measures, submaximal ergometer testing, flexibility testing, muscular strength and endurance testing, as well as follow-up review of the results with the employee and goal setting.
        Health and Wellness Center Supervision - An integral part of the Health Promotion programs is the onsite fitness center, available to employees only. One-on-one counseling, exercise equipment instruction, exercise program design, personal training and incentive contests are some of the most important services we offer. These areas will be an important part of the intern’s responsibilities.
        Wellness Programs - Various seminars, screenings, and awareness programs are offered throughout the year. An intern will be exposed to all aspects of the program including program design, marketing, implementation, results tracking and analysis and follow-up.
         Exercise Classes - An intern will be responsible for observing various exercise classes and expected to teach at least one class on a weekly basis.
        Communication - All program communication is written, illustrated, edited, and partially distributed by the Health and Wellness staff. To enable the intern to contribute in this area, he/she will be given the opportunity to learn and utilize various computer programs.
        Administration - A variety of administrative duties are required to manage the Health and Wellness program effectively. An intern will be required to contribute in all areas that include record maintenance, filing, and equipment and facility maintenance.
