Computer Hardware Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

Great mentoring, chance to take on valuable assignments. Most managers understand that 10-12 weeks is a very short amount of time to actually get a project together, however, my manager did a very good job of finding me valuable work. The networking/mentoring is incredible, Boeing cares very much about their employees professional growth.

What I wish was different

This is really just a part of working for a big company, but I felt at times that I wasn't able to see the impact of my work on the final product. However, this is something you kind of have to accept when you work for an employer that employs 150,000+ people. However, something one should always keep in mind when looking for the right position.

Advice

If you are able to intern for Boeing, take time every day to reach out to someone to talk to. The network you build and the mentors you gain will be the single most valuable thing you take away from this internship. Yes, high pay is great, but if you do manage to establish a network, it will pay multiple dividends throughout the rest of your career.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out to other employees! Ask for informational interviews from people who are working on project your interested in. Make the most of your experience by making connections that will last long after your internship is over.

Electrophysics Engineer/Scientist

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

For large companies, make sure to research the onboarding process and the company's culture. Have people shared their experiences going through the interviews? Did they give tips? They were essential in my experience. Beyond that, does the employer offer competitive salaries and benefits? Is the work / life balance what you would enjoy?

Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Everett, WA

What I liked

The work was fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed all the tasks I was assigned, feel like I really contributed to the development of the planes, and I made friends with a lot of my fellow interns.

What I wish was different

The HR department was a little slow-moving, which is understandable but at the same time I didn't receive my housing stipend until after I'd paid first month's rent. This could have been problematic for someone else.

Advice

Work hard, make the most of every opportunity, and practice interviewing even after you get the job. There's opportunity to move up, and get return offers from yours or another department.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don’t pass up any opportunity. I had been turned down multiple times from this company and almost didn’t apply for this position. Had I passed up on this I would be missing out on an experience that most engineers don’t even get working an entire career.
